Edith Akorfa Lumor holds one of the most demanding financial mandates on the continent: as Director of Finance of the African Union Commission and Chief Financial Officer of the African Union, she is steward of the finances of a body representing all 55 states of Africa.
A Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Practitioner with more than 22 years of experience, Lumor provides strategic direction for the financial management, planning and budgeting of the AU and its many arms, overseeing accounting and audit functions across 11 organs and 46 regional and liaison offices spanning Africa, the United States, Europe and Asia. At the Commission she leads a team of more than 120 professionals across five divisions and manages the development-partner and trust funds on which much of the Union’s work depends.
Her remit extends well beyond the ledger. She advises senior management, attends the AU’s statutory meetings, and represents the Union with the development partners and donor institutions whose confidence is essential to its mission. Before joining the AU she served as Group Chief Financial Officer, Financial Controller and General Manager among other senior roles, and she holds an Executive MBA from the Paris Graduate School of Management. Passionate about the AU’s vision of an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, Lumor represents the often unseen but indispensable discipline, sound financial management, on which the continent’s grandest ambitions ultimately depend.
