For more than four decades, Henri-Claude Oyima has been synonymous with one of Central Africa’s great banking success stories. As Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the BGFIBank Group, he has transformed a Gabonese institution into a diversified international financial group operating in a dozen countries, a rare example of an African bank built patiently, from the continent, into a regional powerhouse.
Under his leadership, BGFIBank has grown to employ more than 3,000 people and to serve clients across twelve countries, from Gabon and Côte d’Ivoire to France, Madagascar and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The group is known for combining financial strength with disciplined risk management and a sustained commitment to innovation and the financing of African economies, anchored throughout by Oyima’s insistence on service excellence and rigorous governance.
His stature has now carried him into public service. In Gabon’s new government, Oyima was appointed Minister of State, Minister of the Economy, Finance, Debt and State Holdings, a recognition of his expertise in economic policy and his commitment to national development, with the BGFIBank Group continuing to operate under his supervision. Few African financiers have so completely embodied both the building of a commercial institution and the stewardship of a national economy. Whether at the helm of BGFIBank or in the councils of government, Oyima remains a defining figure in the story of Central African finance.
